Description:
A restless mouse-like, small and squat bird with stubby erect tail. Rather long, pointed and dark bill. Has buffish supercilium, barred wings and tail, and variably barred underparts. Dark brown upperparts with heavy blackish barring, and smoky-brown underparts including throat.
Distribution:
Common resident and partial altitudinal migrant in all the regions of Gilgit-Baltistan. In high-altitude forests of fir, birch or oak, low growth on rocky ground and stone walls surrounding cultivations. Usually ranging from 1000m to 3900m.
Behavior:
Usually forages low in vegetation, singly or in pairs; will also flycatch, and has been seen to wade in shallow water, immersing head in search of prey; occasionally forages under snow. Bulk of food invertebrates; arthropods, including spiders, beetles, earwigs and orthopterans, etc.
